We hold strategic distribution partnerships with some of the best equipment manufacturers in the industry.

Safety breakaway couplers

We are distributors for both KLAW and TODO, who between them offer a range which covers all road, rail and marine loading applications.

  • Protect loading arms, hoses and gantries from damage during incidents.
  • Suitable for use with truck loading arms, rail loading arms, marine loading arms and hose loading applications.

API couplers

API couplers are used for bottom loading and un-loading of petroleum tankers.

J0451 – Standard API Coupler

The J0451 is the most economical API Coupler providing safe and leak-free operation with easy and comfortable handling.

The J0451 API Coupler has been the industry standard for over 30 years and has recently been re-engineered to set an even higher standard in API Couplings.

  • Lightweight body is easy to use and comfortable to handle.
  • Bevelled lip improves ease of operation and improves load distribution.
  • Maintenance friendly design allows in-situ nose seal replacement.
  • Seal and gaskets contained in recessed cavity for tight seal.
  • Safe, leak-free operation.
  • Quality forged aluminium lever.
  • Roller bearing in operator lever assures easy and smooth open/close action.
  • Seal options include: Viton (-051), Buna (-052) and Low Temperature (-053).
  • Pressure rating: 10 bar (150 PSI).
  • Weight: 9.8 kg (21.61 lbs).
  • Connection: 4" tank truck flange (APIRP1004).

0452 – Snap-on API coupler

The J0452 API coupler is the most advanced coupler available in the global market today with snap-on/snap-off design & superior sealing technology.

  • Ergonomic lever and grab handles make for fast, easy connection and disconnect.
  • Lowest leakage in its class.
  • Bevelled lip improves ease of operation and improves load distribution.
  • Maintenance friendly design allows in-situ nose seal replacement.
  • High performance nose seal.
  • Automatic Snap-on connection.
  • Hard coated anodised body.
  • Cross-over prevention / magnet sleeve.
  • Coloured wear bumper.
  • Seal options include: Viton (-051), Buna (-052) and Low Temperature (-053).
  • Design pressure: 16 bar (240 psi).
  • Weight: 9.76 kg (21.47 lb).
  • Connection: 4" tank truck flange (APIRP1004).

J0452P – Snap-on API Coupler with Integrated Pump & Filter

The J0452P offers all of the features of the standard J0452 but with the added benefit of an integrated pump and filter.

As the collar of the coupler is withdrawn, the pump draws any liquid residue from the bottom of the coupler face to prevent it spilling onto the loading area.

The excess liquid is drawn through a filter and into a small reservoir within the coupler. When the coupler is next connected, the fluid contained within the reservoir is shot back into the process. A simple addition which makes for a much cleaner and safer loading bay.

Drybreak couplers

Drybreak couplers feature an automatic mechanism to seal off both ends of a line when the hose is disconnected.

The KLAW QS range offers the latest in robust design and the automatic valve open and closure design means there is no spillage on connection or disconnection - preventing costly clean ups.

The QS features an easy grip and turn action in both round and twin square handle options. This improves safety and time efficiency.

The QS safety locking pin provides additional safety over other drybreak coupler options, preventing accidental disconnection. The QS locking pin is fitted as standard on the following sizes: 1 ½” DN40; 2” DN50; 3” DN80; 4” DN100 and is also available as an option for size DN150; 6″.

The KLAW Dry Disconnect Coupling Range is fully compliant to NATO/STANAG 3756 so completely interchangeable with other manufacturers.

Safety breakaway couplers (BAC) and emergency release couplers (ERC)

Safety breakaway couplers (BAC) are installed within a loading system between the site infrastructure and the vehicle being loaded. In the event of a drive-off scenario the two halves of the coupler part and each half seals independently.

BACs are typically reactive, i.e. the coupler activates when placed under load as a result of break-studs shearing or a cable release being activated.

An emergency release coupler (ERC) also comprises two halves which part and seal in the same way as a BAC however in the case of an ERC, the activation happens on demand rather than in response to an incident. ERC systems are used when the vehicle being loaded needs to be disconnected from the load point quickly and remotely – something which is often required during marine loading and transfers.

Selection & specification

Break-stud type BACs in particular are often sold off the shelf with little regard for the application they are being used on. This creates a potentially dangerous scenario as the user is assuming that their equipment can withstand the force required to break the studs without proper consideration.

A standard 350kg breakstud setting will impart significant loads on associated pipework, particularly in the use of loading-arms where long unsupported pipe runs occur.

Only by taking into account the strength and condition of all associated pipework can you determine the correct breakstud setting for your application.

It may be the case that the associated pipework will not provide a strong enough platform for a breakstud BAC and a cable release version should be considered.
